Dabangg
Dabangg marked the directorial debut of Abhinav Kashyap and it was the first film to be released under the newly launched Arbaaz Khan Productions. Dabangg was released on Eid, 10 September 2010 across nearly 1,800 screens in India and abroad. The film broke many records at the box office within the first week of its release. It went on to become the highest opening day grosser as well as the highest weekend grossing Bollywood film of all time at the Indian box office, breaking the records earlier held by 3 Idiots. The music of Dabangg performed well on the charts after its release. The songs, Tere Mast Mast Do Nain and Munni Badnaam became chart busters and entered the list of top 20 most frequently played songs on radio in India

Golmaal 3
Golmaal 3, a sequel to the highly successful Golmaal series which was released in 2008, gave new dimensions to comedy films in India. Director Rohit Shetty along with the enigmatic Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Kareena Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Khemu delivered what is touted as one of the biggest hits of 2010. Though the film received mixed reviews from critics, it emerged as the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2010.

Raajneeti
Raajneeti, political thriller directed and produced by Prakash Jha, and starring Ajay Devgan, Manoj Bajpai, Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Katrina Kaif, Naseeruddin Shah and Nana Patekar in the lead roles was a film that drew parallels to the epic Mahabharata. After some controversies regarding similarities between real-life people and the characters in the film, as well as issues about the national anthem, the film went on to do real well and the film had the second biggest Friday opening in India after 3 Idiots, and the biggest Friday opening in the first half of the year, beating Kites

My Name Is Khan
My Name Is Khan (MNIK) directed by Karan Johar, starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol was distributed by FOX Star Entertainment, which bought the rights for the film for a sum of INR 1 billion, thus becoming the most expensive Bollywood film of 2010.  MNIK is about a relationship between two people, between an individual and the State, and between an individual and the country. In short, there the three important components: love story, Islam and a mild form of autism. My Name Is Khan created several records, both in India and around the world. In India, the film smashed the record for a Bollywood release in the month of February, breaking the previous two-year record held by Jodhaa Akbar. As of date My Name Is Khan is the highest-grossing film in overseas markets.

Peepli Live
Peepli Live is an Indian comic satire that explores the topic of “farmer suicides” and the subsequent media and political response. It is written and directed by Anusha Rizvi in her directorial debut, and produced by Aamir Khan Productions. The film stars Naya Theatre company member Omkar Das Manikpuri as well as Naseeruddin Shah, Raghubir Yadav, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shalini Vatsa and Malaika Shenoy along with a number of newcomers. With a cast of theatre actors, the movie emblazoned its name as one of the most noticeable movies ever made in Bollywood.  Peepli Live is India’s official entry for the 83rd Academy Awards Best Foreign Film category.

Three movies will fight it out for Academy Awards: The Social Network,
The King’s Speech and Black Swan.

The Social Network

Based on from Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires, David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin showed with ‘The Social Network’ that they too excel in data management like its protagonist Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook. The Social Network is a drama film about the founding of the social networking website Facebook and the resulting lawsuits. No Facebook personnel, including founder Mark Zuckerberg, were involved with the project, although Eduardo Saverin was a consultant for Mezrich’s story. The film was released on October 1, 2010, in the United States to critical acclaim.

Inception
Inception is an American science fiction and
psychological thriller film written, produced, and directed by
Christopher Nolan. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe,
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, and Michael Caine. DiCaprio plays
Dominick Cobb, a specialized spy or corporate espionage thief. His work
consists of secretly extracting valuable commercial information from
the unconscious mind of his targets while they are asleep and dreaming.
The film also taps into psychological phenomena like false memories and
the introspection illusion. Released to critical acclaim, the film
grossed over $21 million on its opening day, with an opening weekend
gross of $62.7 million.

Toy Story 3
The third installment of the ‘Toy Story’ series brought to life the adventures of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and other toys dealing with a doubtful future as their owner Andy prepares to leave for college. Like all the films from the canon of Pixar, this film is a worthy conclusion of a trilogy with beautiful animation, brilliant vocal performances and a superbly crafted script. Toy Story 3 became the first ever Pixar film and animated film in history to make over $1 billion worldwide. It is currently the 5th highest-grossing film worldwide of all time

Shutter Island
Based on Dennis Lehane’s 2003 novel of the same name, this film tells the story of U.S. Marshal Edward ‘Teddy’ Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio), who is investigating a psychiatric facility located on the island named in the title. Lehane described the novel as a hybrid of the works of the Brontë sisters and the 1956 film Invasion of the Body Snatchers. His intent was to write the main characters in a position where they would lack 20th century resources such as radio communications. Though not at par with master filmmaker Martin Scorsese’s greatest works, this film is the evidence that he is having some great fun with old-fashioned genre material. Paramount pushed its release last year, so it might get a few nod from the academy this year.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a 2010/2011 two-part epic fantasy film directed by David Yates. The two parts form the seventh and final installment in the Harry Potter film series, with the story following Harry Potter on a quest to find and destroy Lord Voldemort’s secret to immortality – the Horcruxes. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 grossed $24 million in the United States and Canada during its midnight showing, and beat the record for the highest-grossing midnight gross of the series previously held by Half Blood Prince. The film also had the third highest midnight gross of all time behind The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
