Tough year for jury, says Kat at Filmfare Awards opener - Times of India

NEW DELHI: Donning a beige, off-shoulder, short shimmer dress, current Bollywood heartthrob Katrina Kaif defied the capital’s cold winter as she radiated warmth and oozed charm while announcing the 56th Idea Filmfare Awards 2010 on Tuesday.

Katrina lit the lamp at Shangri-La Hotel, marking the beginning of yet another enchanting journey of felicitating Bollywood’s best.

Speaking on the occasion, the Bollywood star said that she was pleasantly surprised on being asked to launch the award ceremony and promptly cancelled all prior engagements to make herself available for the media meet. “Filmfare is a great magazine and its awards’ night is most coveted and magical,” said Katrina, whose movie ‘Tees Maar Khan’ releases later this week.

“If I were to be on the jury of Filmfare Awards 2010, I’d say it’s a seriously tough year with films like ‘Dabangg’, ‘My Name is Khan’, ‘Raajneeti’, ‘Guzaarish’, ‘Golmaal 3′ and others in the fray,” she said.

From a modest show in 1953 that lasted for less than a couple of hours with merely four categories, the Filmfare Awards has evolved into a glamorous ceremony with a whopping 35 categories of awards.

With its rich legacy, the Filmfare Black Lady remains the piece de resistance on every Bollywood actor, director and producer’s mantle. It is regarded as the most esteemed award and entertainment show within the fraternity.

The magazine is now available online and also has a Facebook and Twitter account. Extending its support to Filmfare for the third consecutive year, Rajat Mukarji, chief corporate affairs officer, Idea Cellular, said, “The 56th Idea Filmfare Awards will reach millions of Indians through the mobile platform provided by Idea Cellular. This year, with 3G coming, you can look forward to more content and results of the awards.”
