Bollywood at Mumbai Marathon - Times of India

The city became the centre of attention for the world as athletes, citizens and superstars stepped out for the Mumbai Marathon 2011.

The road to the spirit of Mumbai was run through the path taken by the participants of the Mumbai Marathon 2011 yesterday, as the brave, the enthusiastic and the heroic alike took part (along the 42-km route secured by around 700 deployed police personnel), in the spirit of one of the greatest Marathons on Earth. This was also the first year the Marathon has its own anthem, Mumbai ki daud bejod hai (the Mumbai Marathon is unmatchable).

And as it is every year, glam land too makes its large presence felt at this fantastic event. John Abraham, the face of the Marathon for the last five years, was chirpy and energetic right from the start as he cheered on senior citizens, differently abled participants on wheel-chairs and by the time the Dream Run began, he was on the stage pumping his monstrous arms to the music.

Singer Shaan got groovy at the run as he belted out some scorching ditties. Tina Ambani rooted for her Harmony initiative and cheered participants on. Rahul Bose ran for his Andaman and Nicobar islands benefit (“It’s great to see the people of Mumbai all come out and participate,” he said) and Shilpa Shetty managed to look hot notwithstanding her simple tee-shirt and shades and was beside Tina,

clapping along. “I was there to flag off the senior citizens run. It’s amazing to see their spirit,” she said. Anand Mahindra, too, made his powerful presence felt. Shreyas Talpade also rooted for the elders as did Vivek Oberoi, who was there with his wife while Anil Dharker remained by John’s side, smiling away.
Priya Dutt was there for the early morning run. Sidhartha (his girlfriend Deepika Padukone was seen at the Dream Run, looking like a dreamboat herself) and Vijay Mallya were there at the early morning while Anil Ambani and Gul Panag, again ran the Half Marathon.

Swarthy Milind Soman huffed and puffed through the Full Marathon. However, during the Dream Run segment, Gauri Khan along with Parmeshwar Godrej and Tanya Dubash all together made for a stunning photo-frame. Glam babes Neha Dhupia, Yana, Aarti Chhabria, Vidya Balan added to the babe factor too. All in all, a splendid time was had by all!
