Bollywood in lion kingdom - Hindustan Times

When the Badshah of Bollywood is in action you can expect surprises and Shah Rukh Khan didn't disappoint the 'live' audience who had gathered in the opulent ballroom at Hotel Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on Friday for the Zee Cine Awards making a comeback after three lean years of recession. He

coaxed a media shy Sussanne Roshan to come on stage for the first time and goaded her husband, Hrithik, to serenade her in public with the song 'Sajda…' from his film My Name Is Khan.

Star Act
The act began with Hrithik following 'guru' SRK and sprinkling petals on his lovely wife of 10 years, then putting a garland of marigold and finally, stretching out full length in front of her.

Sussanne proved that she was a worthy star wife by reciprocating the gesture by going down on her knees before her husband and declaring, "I love you." Soon after, both the hen-pecked husbands were rewarded for their 'biwi' worship with awards for Best Actor Male (Jury)—Hrithik for Guzaarish— and Best Actor Male (Popular)—Shah Rukh Khan for My Name Is Khan.

The Best Actor Female (Jury) award went to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for Guzaarish and the Best Actor Female (Popular) award to Vidya Balan for Ishqiya. Aishywarya received her trophy from Hrithik whom she had earlier presented the award to. But the Kodak moment was when she called out SRK's name and he greeted her with a warm hug. Vidya gave Zee a 'promo' moment when urged on by anchors, Sajid Khan and Akshay Kumar, she did a 'jump of joy' in a sari. The Housefull trio brought the house down!

Winning notes
The biggest winner of the evening was undoubtedly blockbuster debutant producer Arbaaz Khan's Dabangg that picked up nine awards, including Best Action, Best Editing, Best Screenplay, Best Music, Best Background Music, Song of the Year, Best Debutant Female, Best Debutant Director and Best Film. Its songs played on all evening with even Priyanka Chopra who introduced the six films nominated in the Best Film category—Dabangg, My Name Is Khan, Rajneeti, Golmaal 3, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai and Peepli (Live) with innovative acts—turning a 'Dabanng' cop.

Other performances included Aishwarya's groovy hattrick of hits from Robot, Action Replayy and Raavan, Arjun Rampal's Dhanno swinger with a bevy of five beauties, the Dance India Dance child stars and their masters toasting the evergreen romantic couple, Rishi and Neetu Kapoor, with a medley of their yesteryear songs, Deepika Padukone doing a number with her own hit numbers and a introductory lion dance by a local troupe.

It was a starry starry night in Singapore that ended close to 2 am. But it was the stuff  Bollywood dreams are made of and no one turned Cinderella!
